In China, Water Guard is classified as a chlorine-containing disinfectant product, and it is also an effective substance for the prevention and control of Ebola virus announced by the Disease Control and Prevention Bureau of the National Health and Family Planning Commission. The main ingredient of Water Guard is HCIO which is also recognized as a food additive grade fungicide by Japan MHW and USA FDA.

Water Guard products have a slight acidic pH value between 5.0-6.5, which is similar to the pH value of human skin. It has been tested by the Chinese Institution for Disease and Prevention: non-toxic when acute oral inhalation, non-irritant to skin.
